Solidworks Demonstration

If you want proof of the power of Solidworks and 3D modelling, then download this exercise from "Engineering Drawing" Third Edition by A. W. Boundy and draw it in your 2D Cad package.

If you click on the drawing you will get a full size pdf file.

An estimate would be 2 to 3 hours for Autocad.

In Solidworks, the 3D model took 25mins.

Rendering took 5 mins.

And then you get this amazing rotatable, sectionable view of the part, with Solidworks eDrawings. The files are easily sent by email in a number of formats. If you click here, you will get a file that will open in Iexplore 5.5 or later. It will ask you to download a small plugin for it to be fully functional. eDrawing creation took 5 minutes.

This is well worth doing just to see how good this really is.

Now for the best part. The following drawing took 2 mins to create the drawing and place all the views, and 10 mins to complete with all dimensions.

Click here for full size drawing.

All modifications to the part are automatically shown in the drawing, so there is no need to redraw the drawing. Speed is the best feature, and with speed comes economy. The production of drawings costs much less than in any 2D package.

This entire process took less than an hour and just look at the results.

3D is the fastest way to produce 2D drawings.
